Great Starter For Benbulbin

The routes up on to the Benbulbin ridge have been well described here, and I made use of them to approach this newly included top from the "u" shaped valley to the northwest, which was an enoyable walk in itself, as I admired the surrounding mountains on three sides. A less steep section took me up on to the Dartry plateau, and I was left with a short walk, heading just north of due west to the South-East Top, albeit over some boggy, broken ground. It has definite prominence from nearby, looks like a separate peak, and is on the natural route to Benbulbin from this direction. It also offers fantastic views over the wild and bleak plateau to the east, along the ridge to Benwiskin, and down over Rosses Point, Sligo, Strandhill, and the countryside to the south, including a glimpse of Lough Gill. Fantastic walking and an easy appetiser for the main course of Benbulbin. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1484/comment/18252/

Crowberry

Found crowberry (Empetrum nigrum) growing on Benbulben South-East top in mid-October 2021 (too late for any berries). Did this peak along with Annacoona Top, Benbulbin (main summit) and Kings Mountain, approaching from the Glencar side. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1484/comment/23317/
