Approach to this is usually via Coomataggart itself. One approach is from the NE. Parking for several cars at the entrance to a wind farm at A (W10110 69832). Head east up the wind farm track leaving it at around the col, at B (W10507 69831), then turn south for just over 1km up gently rising ground, mostly grassy and a bit boggy, to reach Coomataggart. From there turn SW for 2km, the terrain a mix of grass, heather, occasional rocky and boggy patches, but very little climbing involved. The summit is on a slightly elevated rocky/grassy outcrop, marked by a pile of rocks.
