short summary
Summary created by millsd1

Referring to the OSNI Mournes Activity Map:-
From Bloody Bridge car-park walk west along the Quarry Track to A (J369 267).
At this point a broad grassy track to your right leads down to a crossing point across the Bloody Bridge River. On the north side of the river, follow the zig-zag track up gentle inclines to B (J368 270) where you’ll spot the ruins of an old stone hut.
From here aim straight for the summit on a grid bearing of 350 degrees.
The terrain here is low heather with a liberal sprinkling of boulders but a reasonably straight course can be maintained with a bit of easy scrambling.
As a mere bump on the ESE spur of Slieve Donard, Crossone is unlikely to be considered a “destination” summit. Except by summiteers of course!
It is however an obvious way-point on an interesting and challenging alternative summit of Slieve Donard on its steepest upper slopes.
Ascend Crossone from the Quarry Track as per short summary description.
From Crossone it’s 1 km as the crow flies to the summit of Donard on a grid bearing of 287 degrees. Due to the prevalence of boulder fields and scree above the 650m mark (as clearly seen in Sandman’s photo) you’re unlikely to follow this course. Probably an ascent best saved for a day with reasonable visibility, it is possible to work around most of the rocks on interconnecting patches of low heather and grass by erring south (left) of the above course line. Actual distance walked closer to 1.4km, we connected with the wall about 80m south of the summit after 45 minutes. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1451/comment/18882/

Crossone is horrible. If 2 of you go, it is called Crosstwo; 3, Crossthree etc etc ....
Other than for a brief couple of moments, it simply defines dour.
A thankless trail off the Midpace river (the Bloody Bridge track), itself, diva of the dull, through rushy bog and a raggedy ascent on to ... well ... nothing.
It will give you a slightly new perspective on the lovely, low lying land south and east; it will get you a new if depressing entrée into the high fort; and it will test your patience.
So mostly bad but not all of it.
Still, on a hot fat summer's day, amongst the hot fat bees, the hot fat hare and a hot fat sky from here to Howth, it is sure better than weekend television.
Crossone. From the Irish - Crois Eoghan. Owen's Cross or Crossroads. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1451/comment/19779/
