Picture: Summit cairn with Lough Mourne in distance
There is a large car park on the N15 at A (H043 873). Walk a few metres up the road to the right and you will see a substantial track across the road. Follow this track for about 1.5km, (which incidentally, is driveable for about 1km, and has space to park.) until you reach point B (H035 884). Leave the track and cross flat, marshy ground for about 200m and then head directly up Brown's Hill in a NW direction. The initial ascent is quite steep but eases at about 400m elevation. You will pass a cairn on a shoulder of the hill before reaching the rocky summit of Brown's Hill about 500m later, which is also marked by a cairn. From here turn directly west, descending to a flat col before turning south up the gently rising ground at C (H018 893). Continue directly south for just under 1km to reach the summit of Croaghnageer East top Summit is marked by cairn and has fine views of Lough Mourne to the east. Time to summit, 1 hour 45 minutes.

A Worthy Addition
by Aidy 20 Jun 2015
I have been on this summit a few times while wandering around Croaghnageer, and it definitely has the feel of a distinct summit, so much so that the first time I stood on it, I thought I was on Croaghnageer's main summit. Looking across the little valley with a few small loughs, to Croaghnageer in the west, I thought I was looking at Croaghanirwore, so convinced was I that this must constitute an MV top! I soon realised my mistake, but I am pleased that it does now count as a separate top. My normal route up here would be starting at the car park at the north east end of Barnes Gap, walking north along the road for a few metres, taking the track on the left hand side of the N15 up through the trees, before cutting across the bog to ascend Browns Hill. From there, the East Top is probably more apparent that the main summit of Croaghnageer, and is marked by a fairly large cairn. There are good views across the little valley to Croaghnageer, and south over Barnes Lough to Croaghconnellagh. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1446/comment/18137/
