Summary for Brockagh Mountain NW Top (Sliabh na Brocaí (mullach thiar thuaidh)): Simple ascent to unremarkable summit
Summary created by Colin Murphy 2017-10-27 18:06:25
Parking fro a couple of cars at A (T09255 99958). The summit is usually done in conjunction with Tonelagee, Tonelagee SE, or Brockagh, but if you want to do it in isolation, then having skirted some gorse at the roadside, proceed directly up the slope in an easterly direction. Terrain is longish grass initially but turns to heather higher up, making for more difficult progress. The slope is relatively mild. The summit is unmarked but a heather-covered bump marks the highest point. Time from car to summit: 40-50 minutes.

Simple and straightforward.
by Colin Murphy 27 Oct 2017
Having climbed Tonelagee SE (see that entry for route etc), it was simplicity itself to walk the 600m or so SE to the marginally higher Brockagh NW, with only a climb of about 20m. A bit muddy in the col, but generally the going was firm. The summit is a small heathery bump with no marking, and there are a lot of boulders scattered about. Descending from here is initially a bit of a nightmare, the route being through knee-high heather, so tread carefully, the slopes are a landmine of hidden bog holes. Uninspiring remote top
by eoindunlea 20 Nov 2015
Unlikely to be climbed separately. Can be traversed on a circuit via Tonelagee or next top after Brockagh mountain. Summit marked by a lonely feeble attempt at cairn on a boulder. Track from Brockagh very uneven and waterlogged on 18 November 2015 coupled with gale force winds making progress slow. I decided to head to it solely because from memory of MV it is considered a separate top. Average views not worth the detour, and nothing compared to the stunning panorama from Brockagh East. On 18/11/15 view from Brockagh E was breathtaking with summit of Lug clearly visible and unshrouded, and Gleanmacnass waterfall in full flow after very heavy rainfall overnight. Brockagh NW Top however, I daresay, is for completists only. That said, nobody appeared to be about yesterday and one certainly felt a degree of remoteness on this apparently less visited place. Choose Brockagh Mtn NW Top
by paddyhillsbagger 18 Oct 2015
Choose Brockagh Mtn NW Top. Choose to walk along the boggy rough path connecting nearby tops. Choose to follow the summit ridge. Choose another boulder for the summit area with Tonlagee SE Top and Tonlagee in the background. Choose your route. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1445/comment/18356/
