Summary
for Leenaun Hill Far North-West Top (Meall Dubh i bhfad siar ó thuaidh barr):
Little ascended top with fine views
Summary created by Colin Murphy

One approach is to bag this via Bucán. Start from the Western Way at A (L836 612) C and began ascending in a SE direction over grassy, fairly gentle slopes that eventually become very steep. This approach which is from sea level requires an almost 600m ascent, so is quite tough, but very rewarding in terms of views. Bucán requires the best part of 2 hours to ascend, but from there Leenaun Far North top is a gentle stroll of about 1km to the SE, with an ascent of about 40m. The summit itself is a grassy mound topped by a small pile of rocks, but the views all around are stupendous.

This summit is more likely to be tackled as part of a loop walk rather than to be climbed on its own. The ground is grassy and easy-going, and it is quite easy to contour the peat hags to reach the nearby tops of Bucan and Leenaun Hill NW Top. Leenaun Hill stands a bit further, but the walk along the steep slopes is very pleasant, with fine views over the green valley that leads down to Leenaun and the end of Killary Harbour.
