Unremarkable top with fine views.
Short Summary created by Colin Murphy  19 Sep 2019
Usually done in conjunction with Lowbawn or Table Mt. itself, but can be completed relatively easily in isolation. parking for a few cars at a crossroads of sorts at S983 948 starA. There is a barrier here restricting access to the army lands of the Glen of Imaal, and you may be warned by army personnel not to stray into their lands for safety reasons, but the track to the NE is on Coillte lands and if you stay to the left hand side of this there is no risk. Proceed up the NE track for approx. 2km, ignoring all the tracks opening on the left. Eventually the track takes a sharp turn to the left (NW) where a wooden bridge crosses a stream. Ignore the waling trail indicated across the bridge and continue to the left along the main track for 120m, then take the sharp turn to the right. This again swings left after 100m, and continues in a NW direction for 700m. You can continue along this to the open hillside, or alternatively at the point where track begins to descend, turn right up into the woods, which are quite navigable, for about 100m, gaining altitude quickly. A fence marks the forest boundary, but has a couple of large holes, providing easy access on to the hillside. This will leave you at about 450m. Continue up hillside to the NW (heather & grass) for about 600m to reach the unmarked summit. Return trip time 2.45 hrs. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1430/comment/18058/

Low bump between Lobawn and Table
by simon3  21 Jun 2015
Table Mountain West is a bump on the route from Table Mtn towards Lobawn. this is a photo of it taken from near Fenton's Pub. A curiousity of the area is the apparently self seeded conifers dotted around. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1430/comment/18148/

Bird's eye view
by Colin Murphy  19 Sep 2019
As I reached the summit of this top on a gorgeous September day, I could see about 5 dark birds circling above and swooping to the heather every now and then, so I assume they were birds of prey of some sort. I posted on Facebook looking for suggestions to the species and among the suggestions were buzzards, ravens, falcons (don't think so!), hawks and corvids. Take your pick! It shall remain a mystery for me. But anyway, they were a pleasant sight to behold as they waltzed about the blues skies. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1430/comment/20654/

Pleasant walk to uninspiring summit
by ewen  8 Oct 2019
Did this last Sunday on a beautiful day in between some stormy weather. I did it as a standalone from Imaal following safe route 1 and then forestry roads before the final steep pull to the top. Some great views all round from the uninspiring top. Like many of the hills nearby it is slowly being colonised by self seeding conifers.
My GPS placed the top almost dead on a boggy pool on the track linking it to lobawn and Table mountain. On the way back I noticed the safe route was covered in spent practise rounds. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1430/comment/20666/
