Usually done in conjunction with Tomies itself. One approach is from the north, parking in Tomies Wood car park at A (V90044 89268). Go in the gate and follow the track around to the right. At the first bend leave the track and head south into wood keeping the stream on your right for a while. The river can be crossed easily after a dry period but if it's in spate there are a few bridges provided by fallen trees. Leaving the wood you will see Tomies North on the right with Tomies itself looming on the left, with two spurs dropping down towards you. The spur on the right is steeper but gives more direct access to the north top. Head SSW towards B (V89546 88339) and proceed up the slope. The approach is mostly grass with some heather. The summit is marked by a large pile of stones. Allow 3 hours up and down.

Rugged route from new access road at Tomies Wood.

See my new comment on Tomies itself for a detailed route which starts at C (V90049 89233) and follows the stream which flows past the entrance to the woods. Great wild walk with no trails. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1421/comment/21851/

On returning home from the Killarney Challenge yesterday (sadly washed and blown out with almost all not completing) I logged on to add my peaks and discovered this one, which must be one of the new Arderin Begs as there is no comment yet. As it was the only peak not covered in cloud, I can say the views were great to the north but the imposing ridge to the south was out of sight. The route we took (2 groups of 75 starting at a 30 minute interval) follows simon3's well described route (track 2560). We continued on to Tomies and Purple but the weather steadily worsened. This north-south walk is great and I plan to come back to see what I missed. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1421/comment/18185/

A fine top in its own right.
by Colin Murphy 20 Jun 2022
Tomies North Top gets less press that it's big brother, but it is a very fine top in its own right, offering superlative views in all directions, including fine panoramas over Lough Leane to the east and even better vies of the Reeks. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1421/comment/23557/
