Climbing east top in isolation
Short Summary created by Colin Murphy  19 Sep 2019
Rarely done in isolation, this nondescript summit is usually climbed in conjunction with Tonduff itself or Maulin. But it can be done without visiting the nearby summits. Start at Crone Woods car park O1920 1417 starA. Take the track west, and at the fork where you see the info board, keep to the right, ignoring the Wicklow Way to the left. Continue along this track westward which then begins to meander up the hill after about 800, turning east then west again. As a rule of thumb, ignore any side tracks that descend and only go upwards. You will also see one sharp turn to the left (east), but ignore this also and continue along the main track. Eventually the track narrows and into a snaking, steepish climb up the hill, before finally emerging at a gate that marks the entrance into Wicklow National park. A track to the left takes you up Maulin. Ignore this and continue westward around the side of Maulin on an easily navigable single person trail cut through the heather, which continues west for about 500m before turning left up towards the col. From there the track left takes you to Maulin, and to the right it is another 600m gentle ascent to the summit, which is unmarked but presents decent views.
Return trip to car park about 3 hours. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1405/comment/18033/

My final Local 100
by Colin Murphy  19 Sep 2019
Not the most glamorous of summits, but of personal significance as it marked my 100th and last Local 100! Having spent the summer frantically bagging the smaller tops, it was nice to finish on a glorious September day with not a cloud in the sky and temperatures about 20 deg C. Roll on the Arderin Begs and Carns! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1405/comment/20655/

OS Sheet 56 can go to bed now I hope!

After visiting Robber`s Pass Hill, decided to revisit both Tonduff tops after a Hiatus of about 25yrs, started at 14066 13923 starB a small rough track leads toward some old bog cuttings here, then followed line of old fence posts across boggy ground to 15176 13099 starC, from here headed uphill in a SE direction over boggy ground to Tonduff North, from Tonduff Nrth headed in an easterly direction for approx 1km to Tonduff East top nice views again especially towards Maulin and Sugarloaf Mts, then retraced steps back to start point, Total distance car to car 7.8km with 291mts of ascent. Save this ascent for a good day as a lot of featureless boggy terrain has to be navigated enroute to the Tonduffs from here. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1405/comment/18128/

An unremarkable summit
by csd  4 Jun 2018
Tonduff East Top is an easy 1.5 km from Maulin, so if you've gone that far you might as well head west and bag the summit. Utterly unremarkable as a peak, but a handy waypoint on a longer loop of the area, and some nice views to the other summits in the area, particularly War Hill and Djouce.
