Summary
for Fair Mountain :
Flattish spur south of the Wicklow Gap, cliffy to the north.
Summary created by simon3, Colin Murphy

Park at the Wicklow Gap. Take the more westerly of the two access roads to Turlough Hill reservoir. Continue up this steepish, tarred road for 1.5km which will bring you above Fair Mountain, lying 1.1km to NW. Leave road and descend to col, losing about 50-70m elevation. The terrain for the crossing to the top is quite treacherous, and you will have to negotiate some forestry, extremely uneven ground, long heather and long grass, peat hags and even in summer tends to be squelchy underfoot. The summit is a distinctive small mound of turf rising up from a broad heathery area, and topped by some rocks. Panoramic views. Return journey 1h45m
Climbed Today, 27/6/2014. Started at Carpark Wicklow Gap TurL Hl (O07458 00096), followed the access road towards Turlough Hill reservoir to A (TA (T06590 99228)), then headed downhill due west for 1.1km to B (O05999 00169) the fairly obvious high point with a little stone mound indicating this. Fantastic views in all directions. Day was good so continued onto Tomaneena, last time here was about 10yrs ago. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1401/comment/18165/

Nice walk

3 Jan 2017
Did this on 3/01/17 starting at Wicklow gap car park and heading up the Turlough access road to A (T06590 99228) . From there it was a quick walk to the top. The bealach between the two hills was frozen but I can see it being very boggy after rain. Returned to the road slightly further North and lower down at C (T0681 9970) after heading for the edge of some forestry below the road. From there I returned to thecar park. Reflection on a mountain
by Colin Murphy
27 Aug 2019
Although the approach to Fair Mountain is anything but fair underfoot, it has the saving grace of splendid views and even has a couple of ponds to the south, not large enough to merit the term 'lough', but adding to the overall scenic nature of the area. This one nicely reflects to rising bulk of Tonelagee to the NE. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1401/comment/20637/

Spiky forest
by simon3
5 Jun 2023
Fair Mountain has forestry. Not a particularly strange remark for a mountain in Wicklow where much of the uplands are covered in trees. But what makes this place unusual is the almost decorative border of the forest, seen here from nearby ridge White Hill. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1401/comment/23980/
