Vinegar Hill lies just 1km to the east of Enniscorthy. One of the most significant and bloody battles in Irish history took place there during the 1798 Rebellion.   Vinegar Hill is the 1490th highest place in Ireland. Vinegar Hill is the most southerly summit and also the second most westerly in the North Wexford area.

Historic Hill
by eamonoc  19 Jan 2015
What to say ! an historic hill, plenty of literature written about this hill and its troubled past, the hill was the site of a battle involving over 15,000 British troops and a large contingent of United Irish rebels on June 21st 1798. The hill is well signposted from Enniscorthy town, I was able to drive to S98384 39999 A. Parking here for any amount of cars in a well made large carpark. There is a monument here commemorating the battle, behind it is a really well made path that leads to the top, a stroll of about 5mins. There is the remains of an old windmill and a small prominent rocky outcrop at the top of the hill, fantastic views of surrounding countryside and a bird`s eye view of Enniscorthy, if you happen to be in the area well worth a visit.
