A substantial tower has been built on the summit. The spot height is given as 704m on the 1:25,000 map, but this does not square with the contours, which only go up to 680m. Spellack (speilic, 'a splintery rock', probably ultimately derived from Latin spelunca, ‘cave, den’) is a spur on Slieve Meelmore.   Slieve Meelmore is the 133rd highest place in Ireland.

Fitting End To A Great Day's Walking
by Aidy  21 Oct 2016
My sixth and last summit of the day, Meelmore had looked magnificent from Meelbeg, and didn't disappoint now that I was on it, offering a fine vantage point itself. Views were particularly good towards Slieve Bearnagh, and along a line of several peaks to Donard, although all directions were pretty impressive. From here I dropped down the north west slope to eventually join the Ulster Way track, walk around the Fofanny Reservoir, and back along the road to my start/end point at the Ott/Blue Quarry car park. A fantastic day's walking. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/138/comment/18673/
