Scenic stop on Kerry Way

Easy to access and well marked, as the Kerry Way traverses the mountain and runs very close to its highest point. The route from the east, the Kenmare side, is very wet and boggy near where one leaves the tarred road, but improves, from the west it is wet nearer the summit. Either ascent should take about 30 minutes or less. Lovely views down the Kenmare Bay and over Kenmare itself. As its part of the Kerry Way, no access issues and stiles over any fences. Starting from a lane a short distance out the Sneem road, Gortamullin is an ideal short walk if you're based in the Kenmare area. Well placed and visible Kerry Way signposts mean that your GPS will probably stay in your pocket. The actual summit is a short distance off the KW, and the featureless undulating plateau could cause confusion in mist. Otherwise an ideal family outing or 'rest-day' option. Kerry way all the way (nearly)

Start at D'Kern M (V877 716) on the Kerry way and follow track to near summit as previously pointed out and then veer of. Stiles and fences mean it is well marked but ground a bit torn up by cattle. No views the day I was there unfortunately. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1287/comment/20932/
