Average hill with broad summit area.
Short Summary created by Colin Murphy  2 Jul 2019
Parking for a couple of cars at T25481 90823 starA. On the right is a track leading up to a house, and just visible to the left is a very narrow track leading through some dense undergrowth. Follow this for about 100m to T25305 90807 starB, crossing a forestry gate on right. Follow this relatively straight track for about 1km where you will see a broader clearing on the track on the right. Just past this, watch for another narrow, one-person track on the right. This leads up to a broad summit area, covered in tree stumps, grass, thistles, briars and foxglove. Follow the tree line on the left until you reach an old boundary wall, which seems to be the highest point. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1270/comment/15514/

Picture: Carrick Mt again

Climbed on 21/02/2014, started at T25481 90823 starA, followed narrow muddy gorse lined track to T25305 90807 starB. turned right here and arrived at T249319321 there is a forest track heading uphill to the left here, this is not indicated on OS Sheet 56. Headed uphill here to path`s highest point and headed right into mature forest on an indistinct track towards an old boundary wall to summit area, there is mature farmland on the other side of this woodland with plenty of sheep grazing here. Carrick Mt in all it`s glory is in clear view to the west from here. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1270/comment/15873/

Enjoyable walk with uplifting views
by hibby  9 Dec 2023
Out for a weekend walk on a fine sunny morning in late November. Parked at the recommended spot and headed up the path behind the houses. On a previous visit in April this section was very muddy but it was surprisingly dry on this occasion. Reaching the barrier, we skirted around it and continued on a wide forest path with the hill on our right and views across the countryside to our left. We followed this path for about a kilometre to T 24726 90554 starC, where there is a narrow path up through the trees.

After about 100 metres we arrived at T 24680 90681 starD a T-junction with a wide grassy path. Taking the left turn we quickly joined a forest road towards the summit.

Accessing (or even identifying with precision) the highest point is slightly tricky. To the left of the path there is a cleared area between two areas of standing forest. On arriving at the cleared area T 24681 90774 starE you can leave the path immediately and follow the edge of the forest, picking your route over slightly rough ground, until you reach a wall with a stone stile T 24537 90947 starF. The highest point is in that vicinity. Enjoy the views across the valley to Carrick Mountain.

On the descent we made a small diversion to T 24743 90670 starG a rocky outcrop with lovely views, an ideal place to stop for lunch or a snack. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1270/comment/24084/
