Make sure to visit the Fingerstones
by Fergalh  10 Apr 2019
Take Cootehill road out of Cavan, Take turnoff for Stradone on right, than turn First left. After church continue up hill until you get to sign on left hand side for Castletara Millenium Trail at entrance to forest. on the Detail Map above H46297 08140 starA
The portion of the track be Park here and walk up track, a pleasant short detour to right on stony track to Fingerstones is worthwhile. When you rejoin track continue until the track ends at forest, than go through forest to fence. Follow fence uphill until gap in fence than proceed up field to trig. Alternative route by Finger Stones
by TommyMc  9 Apr 2019
Like ceadeile, I too found the track beyond the Finger Stones overgrown with whins and briars, so much so that I couldn't find a route from there through the forest to the summit.

An alternative approach can be made by taking the stony path up to the Finger Stones and continuing until you meet a fence boundary onto an agricultural field. Take an immediate left and follow the fence downhill a short distance. Cross another fence to enter the forest and from there proceed uphill to the summit and trig pillar. An interesting hill.

The portion of the track beyond the turnoff for the Finger Stones is becoming overgrown with whins and briars but is still passable early April 2019. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1267/comment/20479/
