Easy stroll, amazing views
by Conor74 27 Nov 2014
Did it as part of a trail run around the Sheeps Head Way. The fact that it could be done in shorts and trail runners in November should tell you that it's not in the least bit difficult. There is a well marked trail leading up from the cafe near the end of the Sheeps Head A (V733 340) - the cafe has a large car park. One first goes past a WWII lookout and on to the Signal Tower, which lasted from the Napoleonic Wars until 1989 when it was struck by lightning and collapsed. As one would expect from any summit at the end of a peninsula in the SW, the views are just stunning and well worth the minimal effort. From there, one can return to the cafe or head on to Kilcrohane on the Sheeps Head Way. If you have time to spare, do not miss the walk from the cafe out to the little lighthouse at the end of the peninsula. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1232/comment/17750/
