Summary for Beenmore (An Bhinn Mhór): Rarely Visited Heathland Overlooking Dingle Bay

Picture: Cinn Ard/Ceann an Daimh from over the bay
Take the signposted 'Cinn Ard' road to the south on the straight stretch between Dingle and Lispole. Walk starts at A (V49382 98725), at the end of the cul-de-sac through a small gate into an overgrown grotto and from there onto the hillside. Continue more or less south. then swinging left onto the ridge to gain the first of two tops of equal height (per OSI map). The trig point is on the eastern top. Excellent views onto Bull's Head (Ceann an Daimh - literally 'Ox's Head' as Gaelainn) and Dingle Bay. Descend from the summit onto Ceann an Daimh itself, passing a waterfall onto a cliff encircled beach, but be careful - some of the sheep paths are quite precipitous. Return to starting point bypassing the summit on return. The picture shows the hill from Kells Mountain across Dingle Bay.

I spotted this remarkably accurate profile of a human head, etched by mother nature, while heading up to the trig pillar. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1214/comment/20562/

Wonderful Wilderness of Hill, Heathland, Headland, Cliff, Waterfall and Sea
by ciarraioch 18 Aug 2014
Ceann an Daimh/Bull's Head is visible to the east as far as 'Gweestin Mountain' and beyond and the hills behind it and surrounding heathland can be seen from across the bay. For many years I wondered how to access this area as it looked wonderful from a distance. The answer came by means of the good people of the Lispole Community Festival who organised a walk to Bull's Head on the 4th August 2014. We followed behind the main walk to the headland and struck off left on our own to take in the summit. The area did not disappoint. The sea views are magnificent with a sense of being right out in the bay. Sea cliffs and sea stacks surrounding a very large area of what can best be described as relatively dry heath land. An example, if there ever was one, of pitifully underused amenity in this country. Hopefully at some future time, the authorities and local farmers will come together to sensitively open this fantastic area to the public, to the benefit of visitors, landowners and local people alike. Not so Common
by eamonoc 7 Jun 2017
Climbed on 6/6/2017. Some of these smaller hills provide some fantastic views, and Doonties Commons dosen`t dissapoint, walked up from overgrown Grotto as suggested by Ciarraioch, the going was pretty rough and took 25mins to top, there are some interesting rock formations passed on way up. There is a substantial Trig on the Summit, views in all directions are fantastic, it was pretty showery when I visited. On way down there are fine views over Dingle Bay to a small Sea Stack called Shirragh An Searrach, maybe it might make it`s way onto Mountainviews sometime in the future Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1214/comment/19543/
