Nutter Mountain no more!

Bad news for Peter1, good news for everyone else... this hill is no longer one for the nutter! A new phone mast and road to it has made this an easy one. Not that it was easy for me either! I didn't know about the road so took the difficult way in. Check out the accompanying map... just use the exit line for entry and exit. Park at A (R21998 71778). Take the right fork at B (R217 716). First ascent!

This is one for the enthusiast...or nutter. My excuse is that it was my 60th birthday and I wanted to bag an MV 'First Ascent'
Park just East of the start point of the GPS track where there is space for 2 cars. Follow the forest track and after passing the mobile phone mast, head into the forest to look for the trig. pillar - which is around one third the height of a 'normal' pillar.
On leaving the pillar, I headed East through the forest to pick up the forest track and back to the car.
Note: the forest is very hard work! In orienteering terms, it is 'fight'... Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1196/comment/16082/

A lowdown elusive Trig!

Visited Ben Dash on Sunday 24th Feb, parked as mentioned in previous comments, made way up track. . On the lower slopes of the hill there is a lot of construction work being undertaken, power lines I think. I counted 5 diggers there is a large area of forest cleared to makeway for the power lines. I found the elusiive trig without too mugh difficulty, anyone intending to visit Ben Dash might be best served to leave it till a Sunday. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1196/comment/20446/

Take a dash off the track to the Ben of the same name!

On a recent stroll along the Mid Clare Way (Map 9) i took a dash off the track at the second of two communication towers (the smaller one !) to revisit Ben Dash. There is a track to the left (as you see it) of the green container....It fizzles out quickly but take a north north west bearing on soft ground through thinned out trees and climb a minor 5 metre ridge to summit.
