Picture: On Cornaclea Hill above L Nakeerogee and Annagh Strand.
Start from the car park for the Deserted Village Tobcol Cem (F640 072) and follow the stone track W for about 1.7km to A (F624 070). Leave the main track and go NW up the hillside to a small subsidiary top and the ruins of an old Signal Tower. From here veer down W to a shallow col and then up NW a short way to gain the top of the hill with views down to the remote and, seldom visited, Annagh Strand and Lough Nakeeroge. Alternatively start from Dooagh village B (F606 049) and follow the track NE to its crest around C (F623 067) before leaving it and climbing up NW to the Signal Tower already mentioned above.
Started in Dooagh at the Trail head for the signposted Dooagh Loop mentioned on the OS map. Followed that rocky track north through the bog and left the track at one point to walk north through the boggy grass plain towards the obvious ridge between Croghaun in the west and Cornaclea in the east. After a short climb up to the ridge its easy to follow the ridge upwards in an easterly direction to the top of Cornaclea Hill.
While walking views back to Dooagh and Keel with Minaun Cliffs can be enjoyed. Croghaun in the west looks very impressive from here too and you could see another good walk ahead. You also get 1st glimpses of Slievemore in the east throning above the area in front of you. To the north the Blacksod bay opens and allows views towards the Mullet Peninsula. While now getting a little bit higher the lonely Lough Nakeeroge with Annagh Strand appears over your shoulder. Luckily while looking down to L. Nakeeroge a rainbow build up right in the middle of the lough. Amazing! From the small and rocky top of Cronaclea (with a very small cairn) its a short walk to the ruined Signal Tower in the east. After a short walk downhill in easterly directions a small building appears in the bog. Aiming for the building a rocky track is to be found which runs for a few meters until meeting the track whick leads to the Deserted Village at Slievemore or brings you back to Dooagh when turning right. Great walk of hardly 10 km with impressive views in good weather conditions. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1192/comment/17799/
