Climbed today 28/5/2014. Heading from Laghy towards Pettigo on the R232 took a left turn at A (H02259 69874) and drove up rough track to B (H02418 70293) and parked at Coillte forest barrier , room here for two cars. From here I followed edge of forest beside a wire fence in an easterly direction. Between the forest edge and the wire fence there is a large boggy track which is best avoided. Keeping the forest edge and wire fence on my immediate left continued for approx 1.2km and passed a very small lough on the left at C (H03295 70593), shortly after this the fence branches right uphill towards Lough Nalragh, followed fence to D (H03997 70845). Then headed uphill behind Lough to spot height 269 mts visible on OS sheet 11, from here it was short trip over a couple of hilly bumps to the obvious high point of Meenseefin. Great views in all directions from here. The fence on Meenseefin would be a usefull guide in misty conditions, The ground was difficult enough, boggy but never really very wet with plenty of short heather to negotiate. Total time from car to car 1 hr 30 mins and a distance of approx 6km.
Meenseefin despite its modest height was a tough enough slog out and back! Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1172/comment/16078/
Must have just missed Eamonoc in his quest for the summit .....parked in the same spot but i followed the forest rd in to a short fire break E (H03244 71143) which has tracts across to a sheep fold allowing access to the open mountain not far from the summit F (H04441 71146). What it lacks in height Meenseefin more than makes up for in the effort required to surmount its 280m summit. I took eamonoc's route uphill, following the edge of the forest before striking out across awkward hillside. Lough Natragh is a pleasant spot and thankfully the terrain improved higher up.
Wisely, I headed for the fire-break described by sandman, and the forest track gave a pleasant stroll back to he car. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1172/comment/20885/

Deceptively Difficult

The last of my local 100, and a great little hill to complete the list on. I parked at the same spot as eamonoc and crossed over several little hills, not much lower than the summit itself on the way. Its a harder walk than the height and distance would suggest. The other small hills added extra height gain, and the ground was difficult for much of the way, with the usual suspects causing problems - boggy areas, tussocky grass, and deep heather. Very enjoyable walk though in a beautiful area. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1172/comment/18800/
