Warning - leave for the winter
by mcrtchly  7 Jun 2014
When we climbed this hill (in early June) there was a large herd of young bulls (40+) in the first field. They seemed very agitated by our presence and only a feeble electric fence separated us from them on our walk up the track. A local farmer approached us when on the track (not the landowner) and warn us about the bulls. It is perhaps better to leave this hill until the winter when livestock are less likely to be present. Straight forward climb
by Fergalh  1 Mar 2014
Take first left off R747 and proceed to where concrete road is the first turn on right hand side. Park here (S84847 89177 starA) and walk up concrete road to where it turns left. Than after going over gate follow track to the top. There is a large area at the top fenced off for a mass in the year 200 and a large stone with the names of the participants is there.

Always ask landowner permission to cross land, never ever damage fences and beware of livestock. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1144/comment/15828/

AKA Hughestown Hill
by Pepe  7 Jul 2017
The inscription on the 'Jubilee Stone' erected up top in the year 2000 appears to indicate that Carrigeen Hill is also known locally as Hughestown Hill. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1144/comment/19587/

Safe Ringfort
by eamonoc  11 Feb 2014
Once again following Fergalh, I left Baltinglass on the R747 then almost immediately straight onto the L3280 after approx 800mts took a right turn up a narrow country road to reach point A, I drove up the concrete road to S846 892 starB. I was able to park here beside two gates, room for one car here. I hopped over a gate and followed an obvious farm access track to another gate, and into a large grassy field full of sheep, summit is just up to the right here. The remains of an old ring fort are here with the large commemorative stone as mentioned by Fergalh. This area is fenced off with crash barriers. Fine views in all directions. This top is in the middle of mature farmland, there was no one about to ask about access. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1144/comment/15846/
