An Bhinn Ghorm is a mountain name which occurs 3 times in Co. Mayo. Ir. gorm is usually translated 'blue', but Breandán S. Mac Aodha suggests that 'iron-grey' is closer to the true meaning in such mountain names (MNIMA, 149). Walks: for a route taking in Ben Gorm and Ben Creggan, see Whilde & Simms, New Irish Walk Guide - West and North, 60-61.   Ben Gorm is the 115th highest place in Ireland. Ben Gorm is the most easterly summit and also the second most southerly in the Mweelrea area.

3 peaks 2 names Gorm & Creggan

Starting at the car park at Aasleagh falls, there is a gate directly across the road at L89346 64430 starA leading onto the open mountains. It's a straightford climb along the spur up to Ben Gorm. From here starts the fun of descending around 100 metres to a col to ascend to Ben Creggan South Top. Then descending again to around 600 meteres before ascending Ben Creggan. After all of the asecnding and descending over three peaks, there is a temptation to descend along the spur running down to the Glendavok river rather than go back the way you came. We gave in to temptation. After crossing the river, we climbed to spot height 356 before descending to a farm at L89783 64955 starB where a road leads out along by Aasleagh falls and back to the car park. Super views over to the Partry mountains, Mweelrea, The Sheefreys and across Killary fjord to the Turks and Bens. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/110/comment/20110/
