Bedrock type: Granite granophyre, (Mourne Mountains granite)
Notes on name: This peak in the Mournes, situated just to the east of the Hilltown - Rostrevor road is not to be confused with Cratlieve, a western satellite of Slieve Croob, although the names have the same origin. The name is locally pronounced without the final consonant, as witnessed by the anglicised form Crotley on James Williamson’s map of Co. Down (1810).

Summary for Crotlieve Mountain (Crotshliabh): An elusive little top.
Summary created by Harry Goodman 30 Jan, 2014
MountainViews.ie picture about Crotlieve Mountain (Crotshliabh)
Picture: View NE to Rocky Mt from fence near the summit of Crotlieve Mt..
This hill can be approached either from the W off the B25 Rostrevor to Hill town Rd starting at A (J205 239) or from the E off the lower Newtown Rd. at B (J217 238) some 2 km S from the Leitrim Lodge car park. In either case a forestry fence can be followed to the summit area but be warned the actual top lies some 50 metres in from the fence (W) at C (J21000 23950) and within thick forestry. The top has therefore been seldom visited in the years since the trees have matured and thickened. An approach from the W starts higher and is much shorter than that up from the E. The ground on the climb up is rough and boggy.
