Notes on name: There is a mapping problem regarding the names of several peaks in this area in that the Irish and English names are not matched up. The Irish version of Derrygarriff is given as Péicín, but this name clearly belongs to Peakeen Mountain. The correct Irish version is Doire Gharbh, which has been assigned (erroneously?) on the 1:25,000 map to this lower peak between Moll's Gap and Lough Barfinnihy.

It has a name!
by Conor74 14 Jan 2014
Well I never knew! Have climbed this a few times at the start or end of a walk either coming from the Peakeen//Derrgarriff sided if parked at Finnihy Lake, or coming from or going to Boughill and parked at Molls Gap. As you can guess from the foregoing, this doesn't lack for parking nearby and access is fairly straightforward, it really is just an outcrop. Be careful if parked at Finnihy Lake, access from that side is about as muddy as I've seen anywhere, and haven't found an obvious way around it. There are also one or two fences coming from either side. If you fancy a scramble there is a neat gully on the south east side overlooking a corry from which a glacier flowed down to Kenmare a long time ago, but getting across to the gully can be tricky enough as one is traversing a steep enough section with no obvious path Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1075/comment/15786/

The perfect ending
by eamonoc 11 Apr 2017
After tough trek over Boughill, Cnoc Na gCapall, the Bascadh`s to Knocklomena and back on the road alongside the Owenreagh river to start point at Lough Barfinnihy. Climbed this hill just to cap off a great day out on the Dunkerrons. From car park there are two gates which are easily crossed, once over these headed uphill to the left following very obvious cattle tracks almost all the way up, once on level ground the actual top lies about 150mts to the east. Fantastic views from here in all directions. A great addition to round off the day, about 20mins up and down. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1075/comment/18879/

Get there while it's dry
by thomas_g 12 May 2017
Having noticed Conor74's comment on it being boggy on the W side I was prepared for the worst, however given our dry spell the last month it was bone dry. Get here while it lasts! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1075/comment/19505/
