County Highpoints done and dusted!
by Colin Murphy  30 Dec 2016
It is unfortunate that my final county highpoint worked out to be Seltannasaggart SE Slope, but them’s the way the dice roll. Some of those 27 are undeniably majestic, others as dull as ditchwater, and this one falls into the latter category. I took simon3’s route 1 from the east, and while I was tempted to drive almost to the summit by way of a nearby access road, I decided that since this was my final one, I better make some effort. But little effort was required. You start well above 300m elevation and a 2km long, gently rising, stony track leads you virtually to the ‘summit’, which is a slightly elevated bump rising above the surrounding sea of bog. It was misty and dull the day I walked, and while there was a sense of bleakness, the presence of a nearby wind farm and telephone poles marching along the landscape destroyed any feeling of wilderness. Still, that’s that lot bagged once and for all! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1055/comment/18752/
