Great views, dull top...
by Colin Murphy  1 Mar 2011
The French writer Maupassant once said that he ate in the restaurant in the Eiffel Tower every day because it was the only place in Paris he couldn't see the thing! Unfortunately Carnanelly West Top falls into the same category. An utterly featureless top which we took in as part of a three top route (see entry for Mullaghbane). Fortunately we had the perfect day for walking - mild temperatures, blue skies, no wind – so the views were quite beautiful. However I wouldn’t like to visit Carnanelly West Top on a misty day, which given its covering of heather and the marshy ground underfoot, I imagine would make it as dreary a place as the Irish hillwalker can find! The shot taken from Carnanelly shows Carnanelly W Top on the left with Mullaghbane on right. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1052/comment/6259/
