The hill of Carranarah, which, immediately behind the town of Foxford, rises to a height of 600 feet above the lough - the winter level of the lough itself being 42 feet - commands a good view of Loughs Cullin and Conn, and of the mountains lying around its northern shores, and generally of the poor, wretchedly- cultivated, but romantic country lying around Foxford. (James Fraser, Hand Book for Travellers in Ireland, 1844)
Carranarah is the 1400th highest place in Ireland. Carranarah is the most southerly summit and also the second most westerly in the Ox Mountains area. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/1038/
