"New track refining feature." from simon3 Contract pics
Picture: New track refining feature. (Contract pics)

Sharing GPS tracks? New feature.
Context of comment:If you are uploading tracks a new feature is now available which will allow you to refine what appears as a track.
Message:Essentially it allows you to specify what of an uploaded track is to be included in the published track.
You can set a "Start" and an "End" for the track to be included.
How is this useful?
Well let us suppose you uploaded a track but forgot to stop recording when you stopped walking. Your track will then include perhaps several kilometres of the route taken home. Not too relevant to the activity you want to share.
This feature allows you to revise the track and remove the bits that are not wanted.
Other uses. Let us suppose you visited 3 smaller summits on the same day. You can upload the track 3 times and each time just mark the start and end relevant to each summit. Thus you will end up with a track for each summit without endless not relevant journeying between each.
Sometimes GPS tracks include a bit of the previous days activity leading to erroneous long lines at the beginning or end of the walking. You can trim those off too.
Additional points:Click on the button as shown in the picture to do all of this. If you have already put in some text or title etc for the track save this first. A Start and an End marker will appear and you need to position these where you want to start and finish. The system will give you feedback if you haven't quite got the positioning correct of if you do accidentally do something wrong like marking the finish before the start.

You can refine old tracks also, however where we don't have the original track (all tracks before November 2016) we have to synthesise the track from our records which leads to some loss of detail of the track followed in reprocessing.

Slieve Beg: Southern plunge

The famous side of Slieve Beg is the NE, gashed by the Devils Coachroad. However the SE side also has its drama.Taken on a frosty slippy day from Cove.

My final Vandeleur-Lynam! Unfortunately No. 273 wasn't the most distinctive summit (when I came off Mangerton I couldn't even pick it out on the landscape) , but the views from the top are tremend...

Dromderalough NE Top: Long route from the south.
Collaborative entry Last edit by: Colin Murphy 2 days ago.
Not normally done in isolation, this top usually forms part of a walk involving Dromderalough itself or Mangerton. One approach is from the north, which has the advantage of a gently rising track ...

Dromderalough NE Top: Odd-looking formations

On my approach to the summit I came across a large field of hundreds of these rather striking formations, which I think are are moss-covered boulders, but which looked like giant green ant-hills o...

I followed Sandmans instructions - thanks for those - it's a bit of a time consuming and boring climb, and the views from the top arent great. I wouldnt prioritise it if you have time constraints ...
