Re: Knockeirky: It's a small world
Context of comment:Conor 74, I checked the flickr site you gave the link for and guess what? I recognised the flickr member who discussed Knockeirky as a long standing Mountainviews member! I will message him post-haste to give us his valuable col height and prominence data!We may have Knockeirky listed before you get there! |

Hill Of Allen
Context of comment:Should this hill be classified on MV? Elevation 206 m (676 ft) ???It would be a handy conquest to add to my list as it only has half a face due to the quarry on one side!! |

re Knockeirky
Context of comment:Sponsorship huh? The only way I was thinking about sponsorship was for the site not from it. Nice try though. As regards Knockeirky or anywhere else, if the consensus it should be listed, it will be. |

Knockeirky
Context of comment:ProminenceMessage:Thank for that Wicklore. This is the link to the flickr pic which mentions 40m prominence, but sadly they don't give the height of the col http://www.flickr.com/photos/31021365@N05/3852162516/ I intend to climb it this weekend, but just relying on maps and compass so won't be able to record height. Of course if the site were to sponsor me some nice expensive gadget...in the interests of research of course etc. etc. |

Re: Knockeirky
Context of comment:Sufficient prominence to be included on MV list?Message:Hi Conor74. Your query re: Knockeirky rang a bell for me. I checked some old material I had from when I assisted in establishing the prominence of the hills and mountains on MountainViews. I see where I wrote a note on my paperwork as follows: 'Possible new summit. Knockeirky, Map 85, grid ref: V852 558. 577m. Prominence 32m?' When viewed on the map, the col between Knockeirky and its nearest higher neighbour, Cushnaficulla, can be given a height of 545m. (based on finding the average between the 540m and 550m contour lines which is where the col lies). This average col height would give Knockeirky a prominence of 32 metres and a place on the MountainViews list. (It would need a prominence of 30 metres to be included). I believe that Knockeirky DOES qualify to be listed as a MountainViews summit. However the col could be as high as 549 metres in height, giving Knockeirky a prominence of 28 metres which is 2 metres below the criteria to be listed as a summit. (I am just the bearer of the news about MountainViews stringent criteria - I don't want to be held accountable for this strict mathemtical rule!) Therefore what is needed is for intrepid MountainViewers to climb the mountain and record the height of the col! We can then work out the prominence for sure and harangue Simon to add it to the list! (ps- you mentioned someone had recorded the col height already. Would they contribute to this discussion? |

Re Mountains by County
Context of comment:The main MountainViews program does a listing for the highest by county but not by all for a county. We do have another general purpose listing program however that can generate a list of all summits divided by county.Message:Go to LIsts & Logs | Listing Programs | Simple Irish Listings Click on Sort by County and then sort by height. Click on show county. Then Look up database. Will do what you want. We also have a combined Irish/British listing system. |

Mountains by county?
Context of comment:Is there any way of having lists of mountains and hills by county? It just seems the lists are made up by ranges ie wicklow/blackstairs etcSay for example if I was in Kildare and wanted to know all mountains and hills in Kildare how do I go about getting this list? |

Should Knockeirky (Cahas) be included here?
Context of comment:Planning to walk up the backbone of the Cahas next weekend, Hungry Hill, across the top of the Healy Pass to Knockowen, then Cushnaficulla and so on. The OSI maps suggest that Knockeirky, on the Cork Kerry border east south east of Cushnaficulla, is 577m. From looking at the countours it would seem to have a prominence of in excess of 30m. I googled the name and there are pic on Flickr which shows it has cairn (I know that counts for nothing, I just like them!), along with a comment that the GPS of the person who took the pics showed a prominence of 40m. |

Login problem.`
Context of comment:A few people have mentioned that they couldn't log in recently. They kept finding that they were guestusers even after putting their username and password in.Message:With the help of user Harry Goodman this may have been fixed. It was an error caused by an improvement in security a few weeks back that didn't quite take account of all login situations. Woops. Additional points:Let me know if you are still encountering any issues with login. In particular let me know what you were doing on the website as far as you can remember, immediately before the issue occurred. |
