Vertigo's talking sense about sponsorship on hills. OK most of the hills that get assaulted are seriously eroded already, but you've got to draw a line..... My friend Gordon was once asked "will you sponsor me to climb the three highest UK hills?" He said "No, but I'll sponsor you not to."

There are more reasonable trips to make if you want to do this. We'd been on Corrieyairick hill in Autumn, congratulating ourselves on being alone on an unfrequented hill. Half a mile later we were down on Wade's Road and encountered 20 cyclists, a dozen horse riders and a bunch of runners going from Garva Bridge to Fort Augustus on a charity run. It looked fun, sociable and non-destructive. It was all we could do not to contribute. You could do the same in the Maamturks for instance, across Mam Ean. If you wanted to make this really interesting you could commemorate the 19th century meetings when the people from Joyce country would meet the Inagh Glen inhabitants and beat each other senseless.
