The elusive Common lizard
The lizard appears to be widespread but elusive to see. Biology.ie and the Irish Wildlife Trust have good information, with the Trust eager to have sightings reported in to them. Apparently they can be confused with the common newt. However I think newts have 4 fingers on each hand, while lizards have 5. I can zoom in on my original photo here to see great detail on the lizard, including the 5 fingers on each hand. By going to http://www.biology.ie/mapv.php?m=lizard you can search for lizard sightings. There haven't been any reported in the Mourne region yet, so perhaps Alex92 will be the first to log it there!
