MountainViews Database Change Proposals
Several MountainViews members have proposed changes to the MountainViews database in recent months and even years.

Unfortunately, due to other demands on the MountainViews team, it was not possible to review and act on these proposals until now, though none were lost. The MountainViews team thanks these members for their proposals and has now resolved them. Most were accepted, some were changed and then accepted, and a few were not accepted. Current resources now allow a quicker response, so anyone with suggestions as to changes in our place database continues to be welcome to put them and can expect a quicker response.

Of changes we recently processed, we rejected a few because they proposed involved putting in the Irish name first. Our policy on that where there is an Irish name and an English name available that we put the Irish name first in the Gaeltacht and the English otherwise. If only one name is available, then we make it the first name. We also include EastWest names when they are different from our names. Our names are mostly based on those on OS mapping and from Logainm.

There were several suggestions for Local Historical and Cultural hills (LHC hills). Places like the Rock of Dunamase or the Rock of Cashel. For consistency we maintain the same details as we would for other hills or places and this includes the county, mountain area, mountain subarea, grid reference for the summit or highest natural ground, and the prominence, including linking col and nearest higher summit. Please try to minimise the work for our volunteers in so far as you are able. Put an explanation as to why it should be a LHC hill into the change reason.

If anyone wants to volunteer to add more, then they are welcome. For example: coastal information such as headlands and points or corrections to island information. Contact admin@mountainviews.ie if you want to do this on a substantial scale.
