Luggala - make your voice heard.
In our last newsletter ( https://mountainviews.ie/newsletters/month/2018-09/#luggala ) we described the situation in Luggala, Wicklow where a change of ownership threatens to stop access to a place of major hillwalking interest.

We discussed the advantage of writing to the relevant ministers. Here are their addresses:

Minister Shane Ross T.D.
Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport
Leeson Lane
Dublin 2

Minister Michael Ring TD
Department of Rural and Community Development,
Trinity Point,
10-11 Leinster Street South,
Dublin 2

Minister Simon Harris TD
Minister for Health
Dáil Eireann
Leinster House
Kildare Street
Dublin 2

And also mentioned that there is a petition which we believe people should sign even though we have some reservations about it. Read the full article to see this, url above. We recommend you don't give them any money.

It now emerges that Mountaineering Ireland are going to back this petition, also with some caveats. They supplied the above addresses.

Slieveboy: Did it fall or was it pushed?
Pepe a week ago.
This poor old trig has keeled over at the Slievboy mast compound. Did it fall or was it pushed? Who knows, perhaps the upside-down beer label (visible in the foreground of the picture) provides a ...

Carrigleitrim: Obstacle course

Followed the short summary directions, but the area after the track has now been replanted with saplings, although these were relatively easy to negotiate. The real problems started at the edge of...

Lugnagun: Easier to access than previously
Colin Murphy a week ago.
Thanks to forest clearing, the approach to this top has been eased considerably. Walk along the forest track for about 1km to O007 121. One the left is a narrow but clearly visible track ascending...

Slieveroe: Take the long view
Colin Murphy a week ago.
Slieveroe may not be the most exciting of tops, (unless you call being torn to shreds by gorse exciting) but it does have one saving grace - it presents a wonderful view of the Blessington Lakes. ...

Collaborative entry Last edit by: Colin Murphy a week ago.
Park at N953 137, at the entrance to a small cul de sac. 100m along this on the left there is a gate, leading to a nettled track of sorts, although this is quite navigable. Cross a fence at the en...

Knockannavea: Easy but unexciting bag
Collaborative entry Last edit by: Colin Murphy a week ago.
Unfortunately this summit is isolated, Spruce covered and not terribly attractive, on the plus side it is easily bagged, using track/s the whole way. Half an hour or so will easily take it in if n...
