re Bittersweet.
wwwalker and all
Yes it can be a bit disconcerting when new summits appear in the Local 100. It's a price we pay I suppose for attempting to systematise our lists.
In the past we had a listing of Vandeleur Lynams 600m with 15m prominence and then a list of Arderins with 500m and 30m prominence.
This was distinctly odd because summits were excluded under 600m because of prominence, but allowed over 600m.
So to avoid this oddness we added the Arderin Begs, which have 500m and a prominence of 15m.

Hence some extra summits for your Local 100!

Remember two things:
A. We have maintained the "pre 2014" Local 100 and will keep this for the time being.
B. If you get a cert for the Local 100, because you climbed what was listed at the time then this is valid even if what is in the Local 100 changes later.

And also, well you get to see more places don't you. Guess that is the sweet bit of the bittersweet.

The Annapurna Circuit

My daughter, Ciara, has just completed an 11-day trek around the Annapurna Circuit in the Himalayas. She's not a particularly experienced walker, so completing it was quite the achievement. Here's...

Aidand's directions are spot on. The road that looks like an entrance to a house actually leads into a forest, it is rough but manageable if you drive very slow. I drove as far as an old abandoned...

Knocknacusha: There and back again

You can start at Ballaghisheen, a mountain pass V671 792. Space here for 3-4 cars. Ballaghisheen is at just over 300m so the climb to the top at around 551m is not a great strain. There is a sign ...
