TB and hillwalkers
The inclusion of the lower 'Binnion Hills' on this site will increase the likelihood of encounters between cattle farmers and hillwalkers. All cattle are subject to an annual TB test. An outbreak of TB in a cattle or dairy farm can be devastating for the farmer. All the cattle on the farm will be slaughtered. A lifetimes work building up a herd will disappear on the back of a cattle truck. While reasonable compensation will be paid, the effect on the farmer should not be underestimated. All the neighbouring farms will be 'locked up', i.e, placed under severe restrictions until a series of tests have been carried out to see if they too have been infected.

In any such case my sympathy would be with the farmer, even though the chances of a hillwalker bringing TB onto a farm are remote. Few if any cattle are found on the higher hills so the same issues do not arise.
