The man, the dog, the waterfall and rescue
This evening Thursday 15th November 2012, at approx. 3.30pm, a man became crag-fast on the side of the Poulanass waterfall in Glendalough. He had been attempting to rescue his dog, who had fallen into the gorge. The 60-yr old walker found himself on very precarious ground and was unable to return to the path.
Local mountain rescue team members were able to attend the scene within minutes, and were able to bring the uninjured man ( and his dog) back to safety. This took until 5.30pm due to the complicated nature of the terrain. Team capabilities in Rope rescue and Swift-water rescue were essential to the operation’s successful outcome.

Many thanks to all those mountain rescue members who were able to assist, to the staff of the Wicklow Mts Nat Park, the HSE and to An Garda Síochána.

The summit is unremarkable though easy to spot as it lies along the fence.

This summit is easily reached from the main Caherbarnagh ridge and seems easy enough to get to from Curracahill as well. If coming from Caherbarnagh, best is to cross the fence just before the col...
