Nanga Parbat 1953
Anyone interested in the history of mountaineering can watch the original film of the first successful climb of Nanga Parbat in 1953 by the great Herman Buhl on youtube. Its a fascinating documentary and even for its age looks like a throwback from a different era. Some of the photography { Shot in BW by Hans Ertl } is superb although the footage of Buhl's ascent and return obviously had to be reconstructed.
Just how long it will be on youtube is questionable. There are no english subtitles for the german but it does'nt deter, the visuals tell it all.
