Send a track down here! Cnoc na Toinne mess
The area between the top of the Devil's Ladder and Cnoc na Toinne is becoming one big gooey mess in which walkers can go up to their knees in oozing wet peat. I presume that the very bad summer and the number of walkers now using the Zig Zags have contributed to this churning up. Sadly, as the area gets worse, walkers are now understandably skirting the morass and thus widening the mess so that it extends across the ridge and even down a good few metres on each side. I would be loath to see any tracks or paths installed, but in this area it might be the lesser of two evils as clearly trying to stop traffic there is futile...or would simply send walkers on to the Heavenly Gates or the Gullies and greatly erode those access routes. A few sleepers, half buried to make them as inobtrusive as possible, might actually be a good thing and help to minimise the impact caused by inevitable wear and tear, and at least herd the crowds through one stretch that can take the crowd rather than all over the mess that is there.
