Any trails near Waterford City?
Conor74, the Scullogue gap, the start of the Blackstairs walk on this site is some 54km from Waterford city. The route from Blackstairs mountain descends down caher Roe's Den which from memory is very steep and very rocky, probably not running terrain. So you want a run and you're celebrating your wife so to speak, what could be more appropriate than Slievenamon? The women of Ireland who wished to become the wife of Fionn MacCool raced to the top on the understanding that he would choose the winner as his bride. So it must be runnable, right? Or not! The normal 'Tourist Route' which is on a track of sorts starts just north of Kilcash at S318 288, about 43km from waterford. I didn't go up by this route but came up from the north via Knockahunna and I certainly couldn't have run it, high heather, wet ground, few tracks etc. Maybe it's only women who can run this mountain! Somehow, Portlaw woods sounds like a better option.....
