Re Oman
kercritch - someone where I work has been extolling the virtues of Oman for all things from walking to diving so I read your piece with considerable interest.
Nevertheless I really would wonder about aspects of this. Should the fancy take you, you could have an extended trip to the southerly waters where you will get good basic accomodation for as long as you like or until someone pays the Somalian ransom. Still, I hear that 3 out of 4 ships in the area manage to fight pirates off, so perhaps you would be all right with a few AK47s, RPGs etc.
Then again Oman is next to Saudi Arabia - wonder what would happen if you wandered across the border there? Could be interesting particularly if in a car driven by a woman, but then again there's such great choice of stimulating places such as Iran (so you did bring a camera and GPS .. ?) and various small revolutions in Yemen or Bahrain if you went a bit further.

What did your hostage insurance cost anyway?

Caherbarnagh East Top: An unremarkable summit, worth the visit for the views.

The summit is unremarkable though easy to spot as it lies along the fence.

Caherbarnagh East Top: An easy stroll from Caherbarnagh.
David-Guenot a day ago.
There is a gate to cross when coming down from the cairn at the NE end of the main Caherbarnagh ridge (I found it was actually easier to cross the fence just right of the gate). There is a faint t...

Caherbarnagh East Top: A worthwhile addition.

This summit is easily reached from the main Caherbarnagh ridge and seems easy enough to get to from Curracahill as well. If coming from Caherbarnagh, best is to cross the fence just before the col...

Scarr North-West Top: Bird's eye view
Colin Murphy 6 days ago.
The descent from Scarr NW affords fine views of the Glenmacnass Waterfall and the expansive valley below it, far better than you'll get when you're at road level.
