Gloves / Snowshoes
Glad to see you lot are getting snow as well. Iíd emphasise the importance of gloves and of putting them on. Itís easy to underestimate a slope in winter because itís no problem in summer. You find yourself committed and on something precarious so you donít feel like taking off your rucksack to get crampons, axe or gloves. It happened to us this February and one of the party (with superb gloves in his pack) got frostbite. On a windless blue sub-zero day heíd been sticking his hand in the snow for balance.

Kernowclimber have you any advice on snowshoes. Iíve just done my second 10k in 6 hours walk (crawl) through powder in my local hills. Itís improving my stamina but not my temper. Are they good, have you a good source, whatís a good make, anything to watch in purchasing?

Aidand's directions are spot on. The road that looks like an entrance to a house actually leads into a forest, it is rough but manageable if you drive very slow. I drove as far as an old abandoned...

You can start at Ballaghisheen, a mountain pass V671 792. Space here for 3-4 cars. Ballaghisheen is at just over 300m so the climb to the top at around 551m is not a great strain. There is a sign ...
