Now I'm fog 'n' lost(to quote a famous bird)
Well , if you start from Nire then thats my usual approach also(thought you were on Mahon Falls side yesterday)
Three possibilities.
1. walk out of nire carpark and turn right, track starts just after a ruined farmhouse on your left, starts out very good and peters out around the Coumalocha. This is a fram access track, its distinct but not "new".
2.walk out of nire carpark and turn left follow track down then up behind a farmhouse, new section of track has been bulldozed to access and cross river, less than 500 meter long though.
3.walk to east corner nire carpark and turn left uphill following a line of white posts. Track is a walking route to the Gap, well used but track is certainly not new or drivable.

haven't been in nire in about 3 months so new tracks are a possibility.
