Re: Classifications
Munros are Scotland only (unless the grasping bufties of the SMC have extended the category because sales of the Munro book are dropping.) It's a very elastic definition - a principal summit over 3000 feet but who's to define principal? An area like the Mounth has 13 Munros on the plateau, but if you accepted the 500 foot drop and reascent which separates indiviuals Corbetts (our next category 2000 -2500), only 2 would survive. Lists are better if they're only in your head - there's been controversy about super-pylons going through Drumochter recently but the ugliest thing on the A9 is the acned faces of over-used Munros, Gael Charn and Beinn a Ghlo. Incidentally, how many 3000 footers does Ireland have? I've seen claims for about 40 squillion but this seems to include every divot on the ridge to Carrauntouhil.

Cullaun: A quick bag.

Aidand's directions are spot on. The road that looks like an entrance to a house actually leads into a forest, it is rough but manageable if you drive very slow. I drove as far as an old abandoned...

Knocknacusha: There and back again
Collaborative entry Last edit by: Peter Walker 3 weeks ago.
You can start at Ballaghisheen, a mountain pass V671 792. Space here for 3-4 cars. Ballaghisheen is at just over 300m so the climb to the top at around 551m is not a great strain. There is a sign ...

Scarr has three useable ridges off it, to the north, south and east. The easiest perhaps is the Glenmacnass Waterfall carpark O11380 03009 (notorious for break-ins). From here head for the north ...
