Gun Clubs/ Coillte
Quite a few of these Coillte notices appearing recently - all part of their management of different user groups and conflicting requirements in the forest. I was amused a few weeks back when I was doing a little survey job for Coillte in Aughrim - the Sean Linehan walk there. Anyway, I'm checking all the tracks etc. and about to enter from an adjacent entrance but close to where people walk. There's these two characters dressed in combats with a 4 wheel drive, who mutter something unintelligable at me (but the tone suggests that I should turn around), just as I notice a gun club sign. So I says, I doing a bit of survey work for Coillte and yer man, says 'Oh grand!'. I shrug and carry on, then think to come back around and get the plate number as not convinced they should be shooting quite so close to a good few people recreating in the wood. Needless, to say, they had scarpered!!

Foardal: Beyond a shadow of a doubt

The French writer Maupassant used to say he had lunch in the Eiffel Tower every day because it was the only place in Paris that he couldn't see the thing. A similar view might be taken of Foardal,...

Summit Summary
Foardal: Simple approach from NW
Collaborative entry Last edit by: Colin Murphy a week ago.
If you want to do this in isolation, the simplest route is from the car park at V882790, and then heading SE directly up the heathery slope for 1km. The summit itself is a broad heathery mound.

Summit Summary
Derrygarriff: Fine summit, easily reached.
Collaborative entry Last edit by: Colin Murphy a week ago.
There are access issues around Moll's Gap, so suggest starting at car park at V882790 and proceeding up the heathery slopes to Foardal - about 1km to the SE, before walking the 1.5km to the SW to ...
