Climbing Muckish
Hello Ostros
Both of these routes are very familiar to me. While the Miners track route is the most satisfying it is very precipitous up a winding path with at least one metal ladder. It is not a route for high wind and rain. It is also the most direct way to the top and is well known as the start of the route of the former Glover Highlander walk. The track from Muckish Gap is by far the safest route and in the early part of the climb is a bit of a slog. It has the advantage that it takes you along the full length of the Muckish ridge and takes you past the large central cairn before you climb to the summit cairn and trig pillar. There is also a cross further along the summit ridge with fine views. I have climbed this route with my grand children aged 7 and 9. Enjoy your climb whichever route you decide to take

Slieveboy: Default hill
scannerman 3 hours ago.
I've forgotten how many times I've gone up this hill, must be over 50. I live relatively close so its the easy option when larger 'expeditions' are a non starter. It has a very decent balcony walk...

Sugarloaf Hill: Easy access and log book to sign

Sugarloaf Hill is usually climbed from Bay Lough Car Park, S03056 09981, ample parking there. Cross the road and follow the wall and the eroded path all the way up, it's steep enough but you'll re...

Slieve Beg: Southern plunge

The famous side of Slieve Beg is the NE, gashed by the Devils Coachroad. However the SE side also has its drama.Taken on a frosty slippy day from Cove.

Dromderalough NE Top: Odd-looking formations

On my approach to the summit I came across a large field of hundreds of these rather striking formations, which I think are are moss-covered boulders, but which looked like giant green ant-hills o...

My final Vandeleur-Lynam! Unfortunately No. 273 wasn't the most distinctive summit (when I came off Mangerton I couldn't even pick it out on the landscape) , but the views from the top are tremend...

Dromderalough NE Top: Long route from the south.

Not normally done in isolation, this top usually forms part of a walk involving Dromderalough itself or Mangerton. One approach is from the north, which has the advantage of a gently rising track ...
