re: Ireland's Iconic Mountain
Guys, does it take an Englishman to point out the bleedin' obvious? Surely it's Croagh Patrick? Look at the facts:
- It's the only mountain I've climbed where I was able to buy a fridge magnet at the end
- the Saw Doctors sing about it in Green and Red of Mayo;
"From its rolling coastal waters
I can see Croagh Patrick's peak
Where one Sunday every Summer
The pilgrims climb the reek
Where Saint Patrick in his solitude
Looked down across Clew Bay
And with a ringing of his bell
Called the faithful there to pray"
- It's referenced in Father Ted;
"It's a big mountain. You have to take your socks off and you go up it. When you get up to the top there they chase you all the way back down with a big plank. It's great fun!" |
