GPS in Google Earth
Google Earth v5 was recently released. Along with ocean floor mapping (not overly useful for hillwalking), less well advertised is that GPS functionality now comes for free. Previously you had to pay $20 for the Plus version. Some good details here: http://www.modernhiker.com/2009/02/05/gps-in-google-earth/
Unfortunately there's still not much high detail coverage over Ireland but it's improving slowly. Picture shows the trail imported from our last walk around the Eastern Reeks. It clearly shows where the nasty false path down the Bone tried to kill us to death.
