Sally Gap to the Lug-Fools Beware
Yes I think the recent snow brought out the best and the worst of behaviour. I think padodes' point, and my own recent post on drivers at the Sally Gap in snow, show how dangerous conditions have been. People have been foolhardy/foolish/irresponsible/unlucky/unprepared/adventurous/reckless/outright dangerous/negligent/silly/careless/selfish/genuinely mistaken (take your pick). I suppose none of the people rescued from Sally Gap or on Lug thought it would happen to them-what rescued person does? We can learn from each episode and judge whether it was a 'good' reason for rescue (person made a genuine mistake/got injured) or a 'bad' reason for rescue (person made stupid choices). But the outcome will still be the same-Mountain Rescue will be out in force to help the stricken people. I wonder will the day ever come that those who made stupid choices leading to rescue are charged for the cost of their rescue? What exactly is a stupid choice- Heading up Lug at 3pm? Wearing footwear that leads to a broken ankle? Hiking with a weak heart?
