Re Adding markers to descriptions
If you put in a grid reference into a place comment eg comment for a mountain, then the system notes this and gives it a letter like "A" which appears on the map However it only appears on the map when the relevant mountain is being displayed. There is no such feature in the track descriptions. The system does not pick up grid references in the text of descriptions.

Referring to letters like A in a track description is not useful since it will depend on what mountain is being displayed.

So it is correct that you can't find a way to do this since this there isn't a way.

Of course, on the other hand, if many people thought we should highlight grid references in track descriptions then it might be worth doing.

Adding markers to descriptions
In some track descriptions, I see reference to locations that appear on the map as markers (e.g. park at point A, ascent to point B, head towards point C). Is there a summary of how to specify these when writing descriptions (my attempts are failing)?? Thanks!

MV Annual Gathering & Awards night
As many of you will know, once yearly MV present award certificates for completion of the various hill lists on the site. This years event will take place on 23rd February, (7.30 for 8pm) in the Lansdowne Hotel in Dublin 4, in conjunction with our Annual Gathering. Much more about the night anon.

In the interim, we are currently collating the list of those who are eligible for awards this year. I have emailed all those on my list, but people are people and people make mistakes. If you have not yet received an email from me, and think that you are eligible for an award this year, please either leave me a message through the site's system or contact me directly on davidowens1513@gmail.com.

Dingle to Cloghane
David-Guenot is correct. The route I referred to crosses the col to the north of Ballysitteragh. It's an old horse and cart road so there is no difficulty with the route finding. Last summer I walked from the car park at the top of the Connor Pass along the ridge to this col and then descended (west) down the old track as far as the tarred road and a pre-arranged pick-up. A very pleasant walk with a lot more downhill than up.

Irish runners in the Spine Race
Two Irish runners are doing well in the Montane Spine Race, which started on sunday morning. It's 268 miles up the Pennine Way, unsupported, in January, so a real toughie. Eoin Keith from Cork is currently leading after about 120 miles, while Carol Morgan from Dublin is leading woman, about 10 miles further back (think she's about 7th overall). Both are the current title holders. The runners can be live tracked at http://live.thespinerace.com/
Update: They are now getting waist deep snowdrifts and 70kph winds. Eoin is 2nd, having turned back briefly to pick up a pair of snowshoes. Carol is joint 5th and still leading woman. They both feature in the daily video update released last night.
Update update (!) Eoin has just dropped out, saying "I didn't want to cause a safety problem". Conditions are truly atrocious.

Re: Dingle to Cloghane
Well spotted Aidand, this would be the safest route indeed -although I guess you are talking about the col between Ballysitteragh and Gearhane (pt 397m), right ?

Filmic
I hope I continue to make my point. For those of us bored by it and for those of us who know it already ... my apologies. For the rest and FYI - shot on 35mm ASA 100, Olympus Trip 35, auto exposure, processed by Boots to 6x4 and scanned from print.
Digital? Ooh ... er .... um.
Just for fun. Can we identify the top in the pic?
