Short island visit.

Whiddy Island is a short ferry ride from Bantry Bay. As I was under time constraints to be back on the mainland to watch Clare loose another Munster final, we made a quick walk from the quay to the Battery on a hill on the North of the island. It's possible to enjoy a longer walk around a loop of the island which passes an old church and two lakes which I would recommend. If you are going for a quick summit bag head North along the road from the quay for a few hundred meters. Take the road on the right at V96842 49682 starA. Less than a kilometre along this road hop the gate at V97157 49994 starB and the last few hundred meters will see you to the battery at the summit.
